Wisdom in Living

Knowledge is proud that he has learned so much; Wisdom is humble that he knows no more. --Cowper

Wisdom has been defined to be "the use of the best means for attaining the best ends."
"We conceive," says Whewell, " prudence as the virtue by which we select right means for given ends, while wisdom implies the selection of right ends as well as of right means." Hence, wisdom implies the union of high mental and moral excellence.

Awareness is more like a vessel which can hold and contain our thinking, helping us to see and know our thought as thought rather than getting caught up in them as reality. quote by Jon Kabit-Zinn

Silly things do cease to be silly if they are done by sensible people in an impudent way. quote by Jane Austen

This is the bitterest pain among men, to have much knowledge but no power. quote by Herodotus

Art is the desire of a man to express himself, to record the reactions of his personality to the world he lives in. quote by Amy Lowell

We presume that we would be ready for battle if confronted with a great crisis, but it is not the crisis that builds something within us it simply reveals what we are made of already. Oswald Chambers in My Utmost for His Highest Problems do not go away. They must be worked through or else they remain, forever a barrier to the growth and development of the spirit. quote by M Scott Peck

I opened the window and my heart. The sun flooded my house and love flooded my soul. Paulo Coelho in By the River Piedra

I celebrate myself, and sing myself. Walt Whitman in Song of Myself (1855)

If any thing is sacred the human body is sacred. quote by Walt Whitman

The habit of giving only enhances the desire to give. quote by Walt Whitman

Either define the moment or the moment will define you. quote by Walt Whitman

A true friend is the greatest of all blessings, and that which we take the least care of all to acquire. quote by La Rochefoucauld

Hope sees the invisible, feels the intangible, and achieves the impossible. quote by Helen Keller

We do not attract what we want, But what we are. quote by James Allen

To gain that which is worth having, it may be necessary to lose everything else. Burnadette Devlin

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things, there is no law. The Apostle Paul in The Bible, Galations 5:22-23 NIV

People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.
